Detox with a bath
There is something about being submerged in the water. Whether that is taking a swim in the ocean on a hot, sunny day or taking a nice hot bath after a long day of work. People can find pleasure, relaxation, and leisure in the water. You can reap so many benefits by taking a hot bath once a week. Adding in some epsom salt and lounging in the tub is my definition of relaxation after a long day of walking dogs and being on my feet.
Let’s dive into the perks of bathing.
1) Soothes sore muscles and joints. My joints, especially in my knees, elbows, and ankles, are very stiff and sore most of the time, so taking a hot bath helps loosen my joints and decreases stiffness and pain. The hot water decreases inflammation and swelling as well as relieves muscle aches, making your body more relaxed.
2) Can be healthy for your heart. Submerging in a hot, steamy bath relaxes your blood vessels which makes blood easier to flow through. The heat aids in lowering your blood pressure and improving circulation.
3) Alleviates stress and depression. Hot baths calm the nervous system which reduces stress and increases serotonin levels. Boosting these serotonin levels can relieve depression.
4) Improves sleep quality. After a long day of being active, turning on the water and submerging in a toasty bath is the perfect way to end my day. It promotes relaxation and makes me sleepy. I usually fall asleep right after taking a bath. So if you are having trouble sleeping, soak yourself in some steamy water. I guarantee you that you will fall asleep shortly after.
5) Rids your body of toxins. Epsom salt is great to use in a warm bath. The epsom salt draws out toxins from your body. Add 2 cups of epsom salt under the hot water and soak for about 30 minutes. Sweating also extracts toxins from your body. It is similar to sitting in a sauna or working out.
6) Can aid in weight loss. Now this is not some magical bath that will shed a lot of pounds, but it can help boost weight loss. Hot baths increase your metabolism and burns calories. It is not a replacement for exercise and diet, but it is a helpful tool in someone’s weight loss journey.
There are many more benefits to bathing in steamy water. But these are just a few highlights to bathing. Bathe once a week for about 15-30 minutes to reap the benefits I mentioned above.
You will feel rejuvenated, refreshed, and invigorated.
